Last week our summer students were at the hummingbird banding station located on Tezzeron Lake (Cinnabar Research station). They caught hummingbirds in a hall trap, assisted with data collection (species, sex, bill size, wing and tail length as well as fat percent) and banding, then released the birds! Our eldest summer student also got to band her first hummingbird! After they filled small hand feeders and watched the birds enjoy homemade nectar (aka. sugary water).
